Curious Which Cooling Products For Dogs Works Best?

Hot weather is almost upon us, and our dogs are starting to pant a bit more. Poor doggy, don't worry. Since summer is right around the corner, we thought we'd highlight some of the best environmentally-friendly cooling products for dogs. You might be surprised by the advances these types of products have made recently - we know we were.

When Is It Hot To A Dog?

Well, surprisingly, the answer to this question is rather scientific. But, our expert break it down for you like this:
Dogs cool themselves by panting, not sweating. So, you have to keep a watchful eye on their level of panting. Generally, dogs can do okay with temperatures below 90 degrees, if they have access to shade and water, and if it's not too humid. Brachycephalic dogs, or dogs with a squished face require lower temps. As do dogs bred for colder climates.
Some small dogs are affected more readily by heat, as are overweight dogs. However, each dog is unique. Regardless, once a dog gets overheated, they are unlikely to get relief through their normal panting methods. This is why dog cooling products are a must have for pet parents who live in hot or humid climates.

Which Cooling Products For Dogs Works Best?

There are a lot of cooling products for dogs, but before we turn our attention to that, we thought we'd give you a few tips for how to keep your doggo cool (or cooler, depending on how 'cool' your dog already is!).

Tips For Keeping Your Dog Cool - Naturally

As mentioned earlier in this article, when it's warm or humid it's great for dogs to be afforded shade and fresh water. However there are some other things that people don't think of that can help keep a dog cool. These include:
  • Wet Towel: A nice cool, wet towel makes for a great place for your warm dog to rest.
  • Ice Cubes: Place a few ice cubes in your dog's water dish, and refresh every so often.
  • Early Morning Walks: There's nothing like the coolness of the early morning for keeping your dog cool while exercising.
  • Moist Food: If your dog's diet includes kibble or dry food, add moist food to increase your dog's water intake.
  • Frozen Treats: Homemade frozen treats, including banana or apple pieces, can help to keep your dog cool.
  • Spritzing: While some dogs hate water, most will tolerate a nice cool spritz, or two, of water on their tummies, backs, and in-between their paws.
